Open_Azeroth_Logo.thumb.png.eaf04153ccbedfb02bc52e6be59e7556.pngAnyone who has ever decided to simply fly around the pre-Cataclysm versions of Kalimdor and the Eastern Kingdoms will know that they are extremely incomplete, that Quel’Thalas and the Azuremyst Isle were stored on an entirely separate world map, and that certain zones like Gilneas and Uldum, present in some form in the original release of WoW, are nothing like what they would be when they were finally made accessible in the Cataclysm.

The Open Azeroth Project seeks to change these things, and make all of the old, pre-Cataclysm world accessible by foot and by wing - to be entirely traversable for machinimists and explorers alike. Our small team is hard at work filling in the myriad of gaps within the Eastern Kingdoms and Kalimdor, fixing and filling the terrain of the old world in as Blizz-like a fashion possible, remaining as faithful to the world of Azeroth as it was before the cataclysm - prior to Deathwing destroying the original continents during his tantrum.

We are additionally backporting the zones added in the Cataclysm to the world map without damaging their neighboring regions - Gilneas, the Highlands, Uldum, and Mount Hyjal all can be visited on foot, and even the regions of Azeroth stored on the Outland map are being carefully placed upon the old world maps. Cities are being revamped for flight without damaging their original designs, and even several dungeons will be visible - and visitable - from outside.
